The
congregation of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate
(C.M.I.) was started by three
illustrious priests of the Apostolic Church of St. Thomas Christians in
India. These Founders were Rev. Fathers Thomas Palackal, Thomas
Porukara and Kuriakose Elias Chavara.

The
CMI, now has 13 Provinces, a region and a few subregions. This site
contains information about the
St. Joseph's Province whose headquarters
is in Thiruvananthapuram.
The
territory of this
Province is almost co- extensive with the territory of the Archdiocese
of Changanaseri and that of the Diocese of Thuckalai except some
portions of the foranes of Athirampuzha, Nedumkunnam and Manimala. It
comprises the revenue district of Kanyakumari
in Tamilnadu and the revenue
districts of Quilon, Thiruvananthapuram and major portions
of the revenue districts of Alleppey, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta

Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara
was born in
1805, of pious and devout catholic parents of Syro-Malabar Church, in
Kainakary, Kerala, India. In baptism he was given the name Kuriakose
(Cyriac). More
